I’ve been thinking a lot lately of passion topics.
Not quite a year ago, the Daily News Journal embarked on a content evolution. One of the critical steps was to identify “passion topics” which would direct our focus. The topics were:
Families First. A focus on all that encompasses raising a family in Rutherford County.
How can I help? As the name implies, this passion topic focuses on volunteerism and service.
Boro Beyond. This passion topic focuses on growth and development.
Faith and Values. Again, this is fairly obvious but it focuses on the role of religion in Rutherford County.
The MTSU Factor. MTSU’s importance to the community is obvious, as is our need to give it a particular focus.
The full descriptions are much more in depth and include target audiences and areas of focus.
Recently, I pulled the content plan out again and took a close look at it and compared it to how we’re doing against it.
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be doing a bit of reworking on the plan, mostly refining and refocusing the passion topics and perhaps our approaches to them. It’s just the next step in our constant quest to produce a better newspaper than yesterday.
